Diaper Changing Station

Diaper Changing Station

If you run a hotel, restaurant or any establishment that offers public restroom facilities then it makes sense to have a diaper changing station. Having family-friendly washroom facilities will pay you dividends in the long run because parents look for a clean and hygienic baby changing station to change their baby’s diaper on when they are away from home. If you offer those facilities then they are more likely to think of you and keep coming back to you.

Changing a baby’s diaper, like everything else, should be made simpler whenever possible.  Diaper changing stations are available that enable you to get your baby into a clean diaper as quickly and easily as possible.

For toddlers, some changing tables offer small steps, allowing the child to crawl up to the mat so that you don’t have to pick them up and put them up on the table yourself.  Most offer shelves of some kind within the body of the table for placement of the necessities.  Diapers, diaper wipes, towels, even a spare change of clothes or two.  Medicated tubes for use on diaper rash are also handy to have on the shelves.  You do not want to have to go searching in the bathroom cabinet for the ointments while your baby is lying on the changing table all by themselves.  Most changing stations should also have a strap for which you can delicately strap your baby down as you are changing them, ensuring they do not wiggle free to fall on the floor or make a bigger mess.

The small mattress changing pads used on most tables are raised on both ends so that the baby has a harder time rolling from side to side.  The raised edges help to keep your baby safe in the center of the table so you can go about your business and have them in a new diaper quickly and effortlessly.

Some of the larger diaper changing stations even offer a small sink.  This can come in handy for cleaning diapers and small babies and also can help to warm a bottle with warm water from the tap should that be needed at the same time.  They can be large enough and with a tall faucet so a small child can be bathed in that sink and then placed directly onto the changing mat for a new diaper after the bath.

Since babies are delicate, special care must be taken when deciding on which changing station to use for your baby.  While efficiency, size, even storage space are important, the most important factor is the safety of the changing station.  First of all, never leave your baby unattended while on the changing table.  Even the safest of baby changing tables can become hazardous if you leave your baby unattended.  There should also be no sharp edges along the top railing.  No small pieces holding the upper parts together.  Should a screw come loose, for example, a baby might pick it up and eat it or choke on it.  Make sure to put the diaper changing table in such a place that the baby cannot climb into it and then up onto something higher, maybe a dresser, providing access to other things that they are not supposed to be getting into, again because of the hazards those other items cost, even though they are not on the same table.
